The fog-belt reality
What San Francisco’s fog does between visits
San Francisco’s western neighborhoods can carry measurable fog on well over half the days of a typical summer, and a chimney crown under that fog stays wet far longer than the city’s modest rainfall totals would ever suggest — sometimes with zero measurable rain in a given week at all. A no-burn stretch is often a genuinely convenient time to get a sweep or repair scheduled, since the fireplace is already off-limits for its usual use either way.
